+ On this week’s This American Life, the lead story is about 1801 Columbia Rd, a storefront space on the corner of my block that is well known as being cursed, with new ownership every couple years, or as the owner of CityBikes calls it in the story, “like the Bermuda Triangle of small business.” Here’s hoping the blighted location, plus a convergence of popular, real neighborhood places like Tryst and Comet Deli, will be the one place Starbucks (set to move in next) can’t make it. According to Starbucks, “we’ve heard all that, but… we’re here to stay.” But according to good old Sid from the Comet, who owns the place where I’ll keep getting my bagels: “Let ‘em have it, they’ll go on into the ground.” On NPR this week.
