Church of the Sub-sub-GeniusSlightly related, creepy/pathetic photo from the cover of The New York Times Magazine. What is this, the Church of the Sub-Sub-Genius?

I can’t always agree with Frank Rich. For instance, I haven’t forgotten his cheap shots at DC in the NYTimes Magazine a few months back. Regarding this week’s column, I can’t quite agree that THE MATRIX RELOADED was dull, or with his implication that its popularity is based mainly on media coverage. But I do admire his use of a grumpy, sure-to-be-noticed opinion like that to sneak in the main contention of his column, that the domination of mainstream media by five meta-corporations can only be bad, and it can be seen already in their dedication to promoting “95 percent awareness” of one of their big movies, or jumping singlemindedly from one sensational news story to the next without any follow-through on important issues. It’s a solid critique, but like most articles about this topic, it probably won’t make much of a difference. As Karl Rove seems sure of, all the voters they need aren’t reading The New York Times, they’re watching FOX News. Frank Rich: There’s No Exit From the Matrix.

+ More cultural criticism disguised as Matrix coverage from yeasterday’s Times: Philosophers Draw on the Film ‘Matrix’.

+ Finally: at long last, shey.net archives are up - link on the left. Please note, I don’t know if this works for you non-Mac folks yet. Haven’t even validated yet. Busy day.
