Rachel and I finally got around to watching 8 Mile, which in and of itself isn’t newsworthy, and I probably don’t have anything original to say about it. But maybe being the last two people in the country to see it helps you notice the small details. Check it out - P Diddy’s current protege Sara Stokes, currently starring in the always entertaining Making the Band II, is right there in the crowd behind Eminem in the big final scene, when everyone’s waiting for Papa Doc.

This would have been a good year or so before she made her way through the Bad Boy open auditions and the elimination rounds of the first season (she and Chopper were probably the only sure bets from the start). A few searches on Sara Stokes and 8 Mile yield nothing to confirm all this, but it turns out she’s from Port Huron, Michigan, not far from Detroit, and when you see her on camera going, “What? What? What?” for a good five seconds, it’s definitely her. So, go ahead, have a party, rewind it, show it off to your friends, and be happy you have yet another reason to watch 8 Mile again. Need more reasons? Try to name the uncredited actor playing Mekhi Phifer’s wig. Or watch it in a double bill with “Dancer in the Dark,” where Bjork had a similarly bleak factory job. When Eminem first goes to work at the plant, with all those clanking, hissing metal stamping machines, I was half hoping he’d start singing, “Crash! Boom! Pow!” Instead, he has Depressing Sex with Brittany Murphy, and you remember why we put fast forward buttons on remotes.

I REALLY UNDERSTAND THE SHOW , I’M AN ARTIST TOO , I JUST HAVE’NT GOTTEN ON THE MAP AS OF YET , BUT I TOO WILL BE THERE AND FEEL THE FIRE , I’D WATCHED ALL THE EPISODES , IM JUST TIRERED OF ALL THE RERUNS , I SURE PRAY THAT MR. ??? Sara, the last time I saw you and your family you all where at my mothers house visting my sister. I only know you from my sister, but had heard that you and your husband where attending BHT. I first saw “8 Mile” in September, so you definitely aren’t one of the last to see it. I immediately saw Sara in the scene, and no one else believed me. When I hit rewind, they said “You must be obsessed with her to spot her that easily”. The other guys (in my dorm) should’ve recognized her, considering how many times we’ve all seen her:

The last 3 episodes of “Making ‘Da Band’ were each viewed with twenty 18-year-old black guys crowded into the dorm lounge after this kid preached to us about how to “use” women. The audience for 8 Mile was about the same.

I feel like I’m only saying this for my own benefit, but…
I go to Howard University. If you didn’t already know, it’s a predominantly Black university in Washington, DC.

Did that help explain anything in the story? I hope so.

I noticed Sara from the way beginning of that movie. I hope they take her far in Making the band. She is sweet, talented and can sing her behind off. Girl keep up the good work and shine mommy :).
