Kersten wrote to let us know the good news that D.C. is once again the Murder Capital, just like it was back in the day! The story’s from The Onion, but it’s based on an actual study released by SafeStreetsDC (to not nearly enough notice - hence The Onion’s relative scoop) back in April. If that kind of approach — using joke news to report the real news — feels more to you like something The Daily Show would do than The Onion, well, it did to me, too. Maybe now that The Daily Show team’s rightfully winning Emmys all over the place, it’s time that other fake comedy news organizations follow their lead.
