Michael Hanscom finds himself fired by Microsoft for revealing some Apple G5 purchases Microsoft made on his personal site. It was probably a goof on his part, but he could have gotten another chance. The only reason the personal computing industry is still making any money is that they’ve been able to keep offering new tools to make it easier for people to express themselves, including maintaining a weblog and publishing digital photos. But that can also make it easier for people to make mistakes — in this case, both Michael and his employers. Judging from the number of people who have already circulated this story, Microsoft did plenty of damage to its own reputation with this one. Those G5s ship with Panther, right?
