Spent a grueling 23 hours in and around Chicago, consisting of one good business meeting, one so-so late night meal in Wicker Park, and a lot of getting stuck in glacial traffic, or hopelessly lost trying to take back streets to escape traffic. All I’d hoped for in the free time I had was a chance to maybe have one good Chicago meal, but that chance slipped away somewhere on 90 South, Milwaukee Ave, or 55, I’m not sure. Trying to find something edible in the crowded Midway airport food court (note: this is impossible), I saw someone toss a toddler’s balloon away, and it rose up, irrepressibly, though its ribbon’s weighted end lay somewhere in the wrappers and pizza crusts. I couldn’t have said it better myself…
